Welcome to our Website.
Gates, New York is a dynamic town located in Monroe County with an interesting past and a bright future. The town was organized in 1797 as Northampton in Ontario County. In 1808 the community was subdivided and the portion still known as Northampton was renamed Gates in 1813 in honor of Revolutionary War General Horatio Gates. Later parts of the town were detached to form the City of Rochester and Town of Greece.
We are the geographic center of Monroe County and currently have a population of over 29,000 residents. Easy access exists to expressways in all parts of town. We are blessed with two outstanding school districts including Gates-Chili for most of the town and Spencerport in portions of western Gates. Our mix of industrial, commercial and residential properties is the proper balance to hold taxes stable while keeping a hometown feel.
Our housing is among the most affordable in the country. In 2007 CNNMoney.com had Gates as the 16th best real estate bargain in the country.
Residents enjoy high quality services from our Police Department, Recreation Department, Highway Department, Senior Center as well as all of our professionally run departments at Gates Town Hall.
From Wal-Mart to Tinseltown and from Rochester Tech Park to Lions Park our town is a great place to live, work and raise a family. I am a lifelong Gates resident not by necessity but by choice. I am proud to call Gates my hometown

- FAMILY FUN BOWLING DAY
Bring your family and friends and join Gates Recreation & Parks for a special day of bowling fun. Fee includes 2 games and shoe rental. Door prizes will be given. Bumpers available. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3.
For ages 5 years and over (children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult).

- BABYSITTING CLASS
Learn what you need to know and what every parent wants in a responsible babysitter. You will learn childcare, safety and first aid topics through fun activities, exciting videos, guest speakers, lively discussions and real-life problem-solving situations. Gates Police Officer, Lance Duffy, is your instructor.

- LOOKING FOR A QUALIFIED BABYSITTER?
Gates Recreation and Parks Department is offering a Babysitting Instruction Course on Sat., February 27. This is an extensive course providing youth ages 11 years and over instruction in being a qualified babysitter. One portion of the course is the opportunity to obtain some experience dealing with real infants and toddlers. We are in need of four or five parents with a child 18 months or under who would be willing to bring the child (and any siblings) to this class for an hour to provide information on what they look for in a babysitter. This also allows the class members to experience a real baby. Instructions will be given before hand to anyone interested. Please contact the Recreation & Parks Dept. at 247-6100 ext. 238 or e-mail gatesrec@townofgates.org for further information on this great opportunity to meet some of the babysitters in our area.
- EUCHRE TOURNAMENT
Join us again for an evening of FUN and "friendly" Euchre. This is a singles progressive tournament in which partners change every 20 minutes. Snack buffet is included in the fee.
