
Gates Highway Superintendent
The Highway Department is managed by Highway Superintendent Joe Amico. The responsibilities of the department are varied and include: snow and ice control, pavement maintenance and repair, street signage, curbside collection of brush, fall leaf collection, maintenance of storm sewers and drainage channels and maintenance of all highway equipment.
Specific Services provided by the Highway Department include:


- Weekly Pick-Up:
- Brush
- Wood (maximum 4 feet lengths)
- Rocks
- Concrete
- Unbagged leaves (fall only)
- Metal (including household appliances)
- Waste Oil Disposal, oil can be disposed of at the Highway Department during normal business hours Monday -Friday.
- Leaf Mulch and Wood Chips, both mulch and chips are available to Gates residents for pick up at the Highway Department, free of charge, during normal business hours Monday- Friday.
- Household Hazardous Waste- The Towns of Gates and Chili in conjunction with Monroe County Department of Environmental Services provide for a one day drop off of household hazardous materials. The date for this program will be in September 2008. The specific date will be posted as soon as it is determined. To take advantage of this program, residents must call the Highway Department to schedule an appointment.
- Tire Pick Up, unmounted automotive tires are picked up, at curb side, one week per year. In 2008, this pickup is schedule for the first week in May beginning May 5th through May 9th. This pick up is done to help prevent West Nile Virus by eliminating one of the most common breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
- Snow and Ice Removal, during the winter the Highway crews are responsible for fourteen plowing routes that cover 92 miles of Town roads, 50 miles of County roads and 51 miles of State roads. Should your mail box be damaged during snowplowing, it is the town's policy to replace a mailbox with a standard rural mailbox with wood post. Due to town budget restrictions, only the standard replacement can be provided.
