Marriage licenses are issued Monday through Friday by appointment. It generally takes about 15 minutes to obtain your license. Both parties must be present. Blood tests are no longer required.

Two forms of identification are required; one being an age related document (birth certificate, baptismal record, naturalization record, or census record) and one being an identity document (driver's license, passport, employment picture ID, or immigration record).

If either of the parties are divorced, we will need to see divorce papers for each and every divorce including judgements of divorce. If either parties' spouses are deceased, we need to see a death certificate for date of death. The marriage license can be used 24 hours after it is issued and is valid for sixty (60) days. The fee for the license is $40.00. The fee also includes a Certificate of Marriage Registration.

Certified Copy of Marriage License

Marriage records are kept in the office that issued the original license. If you obtained your license at the Gates Town Clerk's Office and require a certified copy you may do so by remitting a written request.

The fee for a certified copy of a marriage license is $10.00
