Meet Your Community Services Team

The Gates Police department's philosophy is one that promotes a partnership between the citizens of the Town of Gates and their Police Officers. It is based on the premise that both the community and its police must work together to identify and solve the problems that impact our neighborhoods. It is through this alliance that we can work more effectively to reduce crime, strengthen our neighborhoods and improve the overall quality of life in our Town. If you would like to know more about community policing or other crime prevention programs (Neighborhood Watch, Personal Safety, Identity Theft) you can contact Community Services by calling (585) 247-2262.

Gates Police Youth Counselor Don Scheg
Gates Police Youth Counselor Don Scheg

Don Scheg has been our Gates Police Youth counselor for over 25 years. By working closely with law enforcement, schools and court officials, Don sees that youth and their families are provided with alternatives to entry into the formal criminal justice system.

A graduate of the University of Windsor, Don has the book smarts to do this job. But more than that he has gained the street experience needed to be able to relate to the problems of our youth. Don has worked as a VISTA volunteer and spent countless hours with homeless "throw-a-way" kids in the Rochester area. "I've often talked to kids about the pain and degradation street kids experience, as a means of urging youngsters to work on their problems rather than run away from their difficulties at home."

As a youth counselor, Don strives to help kids understand that they are responsible for their actions. "How they deal with the challenges they face will to a great extent determine the quality of their lives". Counselor Scheg can be reached by calling (585) 429-8270.
