Gates Highway / Public Works

Gates Highway is currently operating at half capacity.  The current staff will be alternating weeks.  1/2 on and 1/2 off.  WE WILL NOT BE FOLLOWING OUR NORMAL ROUTINE AND PICKUP SCHEDULES.  Instead we will be splitting the town into 1/2  North and South  –   North side of Buffalo Road (West of Howard  Rd/ North Lyell Ave)  and the South Side of Buffalo Rd (East Howard / South Lyell Ave).  We will be alternating weeks for pickup.

North Side – Mar 28th & Apr 6th

South Side – Mar 30th & April 13th

Click here for Map of Temporary Pickup

We recognize the pressure this will place on our residents, given the opportunity for yard work that this early spring, social distancing and self-quarantining has provided.  We ask our residents to please help us help you by disposing of leaves, small brush piles and yard waste with their regular garbage companies.  If it small enough to fit in your garbage totes PLEASE do so. We will not be stopping to pick up these small piles as our efforts are concentrated on a larger scale.   We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience during these unprecedented times.

Gates Police  Residents requiring non-emergency services from the Gates Police Department are encouraged to call 585-247-2262.  We will be restricting walk-in access to the Department and encourage residents in need of non-emergency assistance to call the number above. Please visit our Facebook page and updates.

Courts- Gates Town Court has been closed and suspended until April 30th.   Staff WILL NOT be reporting until that date.  Please contact them at 585-426-0410 on / after May 1st to reschedule.  Adjournments will be mailed out

If interested Mary Castelli has volunteered her company’s services to help out seniors in our community with filing their taxes.  The only thing she has asked is appointments must be made by phone 585-426-2770 and that each person pay the $30.00 filing fee required by the government to submit their Fed / State taxes.

Friday’s DMV Mobile Unit- Closed until further notice.

Library – The Library is closed until further notice.  Please feel free to call 585-247-6446 or visit www.gateslibrary.org to take advantage of digital resources and look for updates on their Facebook page.

Welcome from Town Supervisor-Cosmo A. Giunta,

Gates, New York is a dynamic town in Monroe County with an interesting past and a bright future. The town was incorporated in 1813 and was the last remnants of Northampton founded 1797 in Ontario County.

Our community has been at the center of history for this area and the roots of Rochester can be directly traced to our town. Rochesterville was a village in Gates until Nathaniel T Rochester presented the application of incorporation to the Legislature which was approved 1817 and by 1822 the name was legally changed to Rochester.
